What are Primary Emulsifiers? Primary emulsifiers are specialized surfactants used in oil-based drilling fluids to create and maintain stable water-in-oil emulsions. When combined with lime, our primary emulsifier reacts to form a calcium soap that acts as the primary stabilizing agent at the water-oil interface. This calcium soap reduces interfacial tension between the water and oil phases, preventing coalescence and maintaining a stable, homogenous emulsion throughout the drilling operation.
