Filtron Envirotech (India) is a premier Manufacturer, Exporter & Supplier of Oil Drilling Chemicals and specialty XCD Polymer — also well known as Xanthan Gum. Operating from our Delhi-based manufacturing facility, we uphold the highest standards of quality assurance across all our products. Our XCD Polymer (Xanthan Gum) is exported to customers in numerous countries worldwide, reflecting our global reputation for excellence in drilling fluid additives. XCD Polymer manufactured by us is a high molecular weight xanthan gum biopolymer used to viscosify water-based drilling and completion fluids. It is primarily a viscosity modifier for freshwater and salt-saturated muds.

XCD Polymer (Xanthan Gum) is used in drilling and completion fluids to significantly enhance their rheological properties, ensuring efficient hole cleaning. It provides optimum hole cleaning and suspension qualities, even in challenging drilling conditions. Unlike many synthetic polymers, xanthan gum is a natural biopolymer that offers excellent shear-thinning properties — high viscosity at low shear rates for superior solids suspension, and low viscosity at high shear rates for efficient drilling and reduced pump pressure requirements.

How Xanthan Gum Works: Xanthan gum molecules have a unique rigid rod-like structure that creates a stable three-dimensional network in aqueous solutions. This network provides exceptional viscosity and pseudoplastic (shear-thinning) behavior. When the fluid is static or moving slowly (low shear), the viscosity remains high, effectively suspending weighting materials and drill cuttings. When the fluid is pumped rapidly (high shear), the viscosity decreases, reducing friction pressure and allowing efficient drilling.

Key Benefits & Features:
Excellent Suspension Properties – Prevents settlement of weighting agents (barite, hematite) and drilled cuttings.
Wide pH Stability – Stable over a broad pH range (typically 2-12).
High Salt Tolerance – Effective in saturated brines, seawater, and fresh water-based drilling fluids.
Bacterial Resistance – Resistant to bacterial fermentation and degradation.
Shear-Thinning Behavior – High viscosity at low shear for suspension, low viscosity at high shear for efficient pumping.
Temperature Stability – Maintains viscosity up to elevated temperatures (typically 120-150°C).
Compatible with Most Additives – Works well with other drilling fluid chemicals.
Environmentally Friendly – Natural biopolymer, biodegradable, non-toxic.

Mixing & Application Guidelines: XCD Polymer should be added slowly through the hopper to prevent lumping and ensure proper hydration. The time required for the product to yield its ultimate viscosity depends on the salinity, temperature, and shear conditions. Higher temperatures and increased shear generally accelerate hydration, while high salinity may require longer mixing times. The amount of viscosifier to be used will depend on the desired viscosity and specific well conditions.

Applications:
Water-Based Drilling Fluids – Primary viscosifier for WBM systems.
Completion Fluids – Enhances rheology for solids suspension.
Workover Fluids – Provides viscosity for well intervention operations.
Horizontal & Directional Drilling – Excellent hole cleaning in deviated wells.
High-Salt Environments – Effective in saturated brines and seawater.
HPHT Wells – Maintains viscosity under elevated temperatures.

Packaging & Handling: XCD Polymer is packed in 25 kg bags. The product must be handled as an industrial chemical, wearing appropriate protective equipment (gloves, goggles, dust mask) and observing the precautions as mentioned in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent caking.

Advantages:

  • Excellent Suspension Properties – Restricts settlement of weighting agents (barite, hematite) and drilled cuttings, even in static conditions.
  • Stable Over Wide pH Range & Effective in Saturated Brines – Performs reliably across pH 2-12 and works effectively in fresh water, sea water, and saturated saltwater systems.
  • Resistant to Bacterial Fermentation – Unlike many natural polymers, xanthan gum resists bacterial degradation, ensuring long-term stability and consistent performance.
